Gurubody Invitation #23 Fluidity/Flow

A series of 30 Invitations to listen to your Gurubody.

 

Listening to my body’s sensations and asking where I feel the most Flow, what do I notice?

 

That my right foot begins to listen to my left which is standing with greater softness on the yoga mat this morning.

How that softness in my left foot allows for more Flow through my knee and hip and more responsive support for my left side.

 

Calling for that same sense of Flow and responsive support, my right foot invites more breath to help create space through it’s multiple joints and strong muscles

…. as I ease through an elongated outbreath, I feel a subtle dropping of unnecessary effort and the sole of my foot relaxes only just perceptibly yet deeper into the cool texture of the mat.

What happens then when I bring a little Curiosity into my listening to my gurubody?

 

If I’m aligning myself with ease and breathing effortlessly, letting my body’s movement be impulsed by the movement of my breath, what’s there for me to notice?

 

And if I add a side of Curiosity to my exploring, what more comes to my attention?

Do I notice more by being Curious about what I’ll discover?

Just what effect does refining my alignment in gravity have?  And if I’m even more Curious, what else do I notice?

If I add a little more appreciation for my body right here, right now, what surprises me in what I discover?

Gurubody Invitation #21 Effortless

A series of 30 Invitations to listen to your Gurubody.

 

Minimum effort makes for maximum efficiency …  so where can I drop into more Effortlessness with my body today?

 

If I tune-in to the sensations and ask my body where it’s making more Effort than necessary, what parts start speaking to me?

Where do I feel little tensions (or big ones), maybe a pinching or holding somewhere on my exhale, or maybe I just notice somewhere that could release more fully into gravity’s support?

 

With a little appreciation for this message so as not to go making myself wrong for anything I might discover, how much more Effortlessness can I invite in?

What ripples of ease are supported by my breath?

How much more freedom for motility can I create?

Gurubody Invitation #20 Motility

A series of 30 Invitations to listen to your Gurubody.

 

How can I create an optimal environment so that Motility occurs freely in my body?

 

mo·til·i·ty   noun.

1. Biology  Moving or having the power to move spontaneously: motile spores.

2. Psychology  Of or relating to mental imagery that arises primarily from sensations of bodily movement and position rather than from visual or auditory sensations.

 

Mobility is familiar to us, but Motility?  As described above, it’s the tiny micro-movements which our bodies or our psyches make spontaneously without our conscious intention.

 

It precedes mobility in the vital moving aliveness of our body temples.

 

What happens when I take the time to individually invite my breath, alignment and attention to support the increase of Motility in my body?

Gurubody Invitation #19 Space

A series of 30 Invitations to listen to your Gurubody.

 

Is there anywhere in my body which feels like it could do with more Space right now?

 

Where is my attention drawn to if I ask this question of my body rather than my thoughts?  Has my awareness made any difference to what I can feel already?

And after a few easy and effortless breaths, how does my body want me to use gravity to help make more Space? Can I let it pull my breath down into Spaces that it hasn’t been reaching?

 

Sometimes I shift the focus of my attention until it feels like I’m aware of each individual cell and the Spaces between them, like the old movie where a character is shrunk and can travel inside someone’s body at microscopic size.

If I feel like playing with this  what happens to my sense of Space within my body?

Gurubody Invitation #18 Brain

A series of 30 Invitations to listen to your Gurubody.

 

What cocktail is my Brain serving up to my body right now and could the mix do with any tweaking?!

 

Taking a moment to align my body easily in relation to gravity and breathe some undulations through it…. I bring my awareness to my Brain, floating in cerebro-spinal fluid inside my skull.

What sensations are there when I listen-in to its floating?

 

The plates of bone that make up my skull are not fused, there’s an infinite capacity for micro-movements and pulsations between them… can I refine my awareness, soften my breathing and feel any of them?

If I soften the multitude of muscles on my face, what effects ripple through my skull and my Brain?

 

The electrical activity of my synapses flows through my spinal cord serving up cocktails of invitation/instruction … as I bring a bit of awareness to my spine and spinal cord, what sensations make me aware that this is happening?

Can I feel the activity of my Brain all the way down to my sacrum at the bottom of my spine and branching through my lower body?

 

Has bringing awareness to my body’s responses to my Brain had an effect on my Brain itself?

Gurubody Invitation #17 Lungs

A series of 30 Invitations to listen to your Gurubody.

 

How fully and with how much ease am I using my Lungs?

 

If I take a moment, it might take a few tries, can I just let the air flow effortlessly in and out of my Lungs?

Where does it flow fully and easily?

Is it filling the front as much as the back?   If not, can I soften into the tissue (muscle, bone, connective tissue, whatever..) which is right next to them?

What happens if I do?

 

My right lung has 3 lobes and my left just 2 to make room for my heart, can I feel that as I breath?

 

The bottom of each lung rests on the muscle of my solar plexus, the top reaches up to nestle below my collar bones, how much of this length am I using right now?  What happens if I invite a little more air to come in on the next breath, and the one after?  If I let the extra air lap up against the tissue which is inviting it in….

And if I let the exhale lengthen … ?

What’s my body feeling in the area just-on and just-off my Skin?

 

What’s there to notice if I bring my attention there right now?

Where can I feel into easily, and is there anywhere with little or no sensation?

 

What happens if I bring more breath into theses areas…. does the ease expand? Can I begin to feel into the places with less sensation?

 

There’s a huge richness of what I perceive as me and not-me in this area of transition between on-my-body and off-my-body.

 

How solid or how permeable does my Skin feel right now?

Gurubody Invitation #15 Connections

A series of 30 Invitations to listen to your Gurubody.

 

When I come across places in my body which need some support, what Connections within my own physical self are there to provide it?

 

And how can I find them?

 

When I find places with tension, pain, discomfort, restriction or less general flow and movement what can I do? I can ask my body which other places  are Connected to these initial sensations, and see what areas come to my attention.

 

And then I can see what happens if I soften into the Connection and trace it’s pathway through my tissue.  Where does that path go?  Being open to  being surprised by the route the Connection takes can yield more information too…

And then I can go about bringing a little more breath into the Connection and watching to see what happens ..

And I can see if there are any places where I can invite my body to drop into that support from gravity a smidge more too…

What happens if I give myself some space to do all that?  How do the initial things that I noticed respond?

Gurubody Invitation #14 Heart

A series of 30 Invitations to listen to your Gurubody.

 

It kinda helps me to follow a ‘path with Heart’* if I can feel mine.

 

*Don Juan, amongst many others, recommended to Carlos Castaneda to ‘Follow the path with Heart’.  All well and good, until I discover I’m limited in how much I can feel of my own literal, physical Heart muscle…

To start with I can bring my awareness to the area where my Heart lies in my chest. What are the first layers of sensation?  Can I feel the front and back, or the sides, equally? How about the top and bottom?  Lordy… the top and bottom!

How is my Heart muscle relating to the tissue that’s immediately next to it?

My lung, ribs, muscles of my chest and even the rainbow thin film of fascia that encases everything?  Is there’s an easy existence side-by-side inside my chest? Do they dance with each Heart beat… could the music of my breath and some softening into one-another ease the steps of their dance?

 

Oh please, let me take my time with this one.  This oh-so-over-referred-to organ of my body. Is this the Heart I’ve been following when I thought I was following my Heart?
